For singers, voice is the primary means of expression.
Unlike other operas, however, Gianni Schicchi is genuinely close to theatre. In Puccini’s case, the orchestra is a character in its own right, reminiscent of the chorus in Greek tragedies, because it is given a space for its own comments and creative reflections on what is happening on stage. The rich nuances conveyed by the range of musical instruments makes me aware that sonic space is difficult to render by way of words because opera is musical theatre with a focus on music. Having said that, in my case, opera is musical theatre with a focus on theatre first and foremost.

Vocea este principalul mijloc de exprimare pentru cântăreți.
Dar spre deosebire de alte opere, Gianni Schicchi este opera care se apropie cel mai mult de teatru. La Puccini orchestra este un personaj în sine care imi aduce aminte de corul antic din tragedii, pentru că are propriile comentarii si preia in mod creativ ce se intamplă pe scenă. Bogația de culori reprezentată prin multitudinea de instrumente mă face să simt, că spatiul sonor este ceva greu de explicat in cuvinte.
Opera este teatru muzical cu accent pe muzică, dar în cazul meu opera rămâne teatru muzical, cu accent pe teatru.
